Hey boys & girls. Just a quick message to thank Jonathan for persuading me to come out on Saturday. It was good to see you and the girls (Madam Moore, Martin & Neil). I am in total pain now. My throat is sore (don’t know why – it’s not what you think!). That after hours pub thing that we went to after subway was quite good (the music wasn’t up to much but the people were quite friendly). Me and this drag queen named Iona (i think!) became best friends when I spotted a small circular white object in a transparent bag on the floor (which we shared) then we started strutting our stuff in front of that terrified group of straight guys in the corner…it was fab! Oh what a weekend. Saturday was “70’s Porn Star” night at Birmingham’s Hard House event – BLUE@Subway City. Didn’t bother trying to dress up (down?) for it. Jonathan wore a tasteful sky blue Hawaiian shirt whilst Neil had an oversized collar on his. Well..they tried! Drink (cheap) followed by tea and biscuits rendered me into a state of happy twattedness. SPent most of the night dancing in the GARAGE room (oh dear). Mainfloor was horrendous – some DJ who was more interested in waving at the punters (not that many) than actually trying to mix the vinyl. Absolute rubbish. We escaped BACK to the GARAGE room to recover. Pixie ‘I only take things on special occasions…’ Monkey proceeded to eat something he shouldn’t have and then took the theme of the night somewhat too far by exposing himself to people in the chillout area…!!! Nice chillout at JF’s including making us drink something called AUSTRIAN TEA…a mix of tea and Rum. Was actually rather nice, although I collapsed halfway through and had to be put to bed;) Thank you Martyn.. Hope all 2KLUBBERS had a fab weekend. Had a great NYE, and celebrated my burfday with luverly mates. Was thinking of flying off to the sun until I read this…. Passengers on a plane are waiting for the flight to leave. The entrance opens, and two men walk up the aisle, dressed in pilot uniforms. Both are wearing dark glasses. One is using a seeing-eye dog, and the other is tapping his way up the aisle with a cane. Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin, but the men enter the cockpit, the door closes, and the engines start. The passengers begin glancing nervously, searching for some sign that this is just a little practical joke. None is forthcoming. The plane moves faster and faster down the runway, and people at the windows realize that they’re headed straight for the water at the edge of the airport. As it begins to look as though the plane will never take off, that it will plow into the water, screams of panic fill the cabin. But at that moment, the plane lifts smoothly into the air. Up in the cockpit, the co-pilot turns to the pilot and says, “You know, Bob, one of these days, they’re going to scream too late, and we’re all gonna die.” Thanks to my mate Ailsa, in Australia, for that one. Music was superb-and not a HOOVER in sight! (or sound..). So good was the event that we then decided to show the lads a London club so off we drove 114 miles to TURNMILLS for a very quiet HABIT New Years Day special. Music was good though…DJ’s TREVOR ROCKLIFFE and EJ DOUBELL rocked the mainfloor although a lacklustre and uninspiring set from LISA PIN UP drove the atmosphere down a peg or two. Just adding my Xmas greetings to all 2Klubberz. I have left my brain in Birmingham in a darkroom (!) in Subway City. Night Nurse has some strange effects when snorted;) SUPERFISH looks tempting Dave – lets try and arrange a mass exodus down to The Fridge? Trade has definitely gone disco – they won’t let you in without flairs now… Chris G? Did u have a fun time at BLUE? I can’t remember much apart from dancing like a mad thing to Paul Kershaw’s set and sitting in a corner talking about old times with Rachel Auburn. HARD HOUSE HEAVEN was…well…absolute HELL. Awful default Hard House (ie nothing new, all the boring old rubbish). Atrocious mixing (ie out of time for 30 seconds and they STILL didn’t notice!). Shit sound system (someone liked treble too much). Horrendous ‘clientele’ (shirts from Mr Byrite, beer boys who couldn’t dance falling off the stage) and generally a horrible experience. Never again. Peachy: The rumour based on the e-mail is, (so Madders says), bollox, ….(thinks: does profanity checking include “bollocks”?). Certainly it would NOT be true that Sundissential had lost their license as they don’t have a license to lose. They’re the promoters, and The Sanctuary or The Que Club are the holders of the license. It’s possible that the venue MIGHT have lost their license but on the Sundissential website Madders says that that is completely untrue. Sundissential have f@cked up good and proper: woke this morning to 256 emails, all sent to sundissential@topica.com, but unfortunatly they’re emails are being sent not just to that address, but to every address on their subscriber list. Therefore Ive made friends with loads of madheads today, but one guy got the sack cos they were all going to his work email address and his boss threw a fit. So clubbing really can directly affect your work. Also, sifting through I found an email from someone at sunnyd saying that the police have taken their brum licence away and that theres no refund on tickets already bought. I cringe to think.. We’re off to ‘Hard House Heaven’ this weekend in Brum to find out whether it really is ‘Heaven’ or possibly ‘Hell;)’ There’s too much cheesy Hard House around now and too many DJ’s playing the stuff. Regarding comments on the music policy of Insomniacz : I see Insomz as a totally different club to places (supposedly) like Trade and other more progressive nights – I think they are out to provide a different service for which the clubber pays their cash. I see clubs performing two main functions : to entertain, or to educate (or a combination of both?). Whereas the buildup in Trade (as we all know) goes from deep, bassline driven US / UK house to a more techno edge sound perhaps leading onto a hard / funky sound (eg KGB, Steve Thomas), leading on to full on hard house and nu-NRG, Insomniacz dont (in my opinion) take this approach but go more for a hard, banging approach all the way through the night. However, this is what some people want – they don’t want to be educated – they want to entertained – there IS a strong market for this way of running a hard house club (especially with the current surge in popularity and increase in numbers of people going to hard house nights). Personally, it really depends on the mood that I’m in as to whether I choose to be entertained or educated. For example, if I am looking for a funky / US house type night in my home city of Leeds then I’ll head out to the progressive, deeper sounds of Derrick Carter, Jon Carter or Angel Moraes at ‘Basics’. If I’m looking for a good ol’ fun night out full of silliness then I’m more than likely to head to Speed Queen where entertainment is very much the order of the day with tunes such as Bob Sinclar, Stardust or the better known stuff on Subliminal is more likely to feature. The point being made is that people go out for different reasons – for different nights. DJGRH

Congratulations Jonathan, although it is disapointing that 2KLUB is not going to be as easy to get to, the 2KLUBBERS will unite and we shall take Birmingham + rename it 2klubbingham if thats ok with you. Lots of things to tell you all about; don’t know where to start. How about….??? …. the weekend! Did a triple last w/e: 101 at The Adelphi and Insomniacz at The Corporation in Sheffield followed by Trade at Code in Birmingham. 101: Ann Savage, The Tidy Boys and Ian M. Frankly not up to much. The sound system for AS sounded muffled and only sounded reasonable when TTBs got going. Their set was great but Ian M was all over the place. Seemingly a new trait developed by the Trade DJ posse – more on this later. The club was smaller than I’d expected and had a weird mix of people, some who looked like they’d never been to a HH event before. Still it was Gareth’s burfday and the company made up for the strangeness of the crowd. Insoms. was, well, Insoms; fine if you like that sort of thing – promoters who don’t have a clue about music policy, very young people snorting lines of white powder off the tabletops in the cafeteria, and a dangerously sweltering main room where the air conditioning was deliberately turned off. Still, Andy Farley was playing, and they had an awesome laser in the second room, and considering that it was eight hours, two rooms, around ten DJs for eight squids while 101 was nine for six hours and three sets it wasn’t that bad value – despite queuing in the cold for a loooong time to get in. Trade at Code on the Sunday night was an absolute fiasco. They have seriously lost the plot, with Alan Thompson playing some luverly funky house – so funky indeed I thought I was in some chilling bar sipping martinis rather than chugging on my Red Bull. He wasn’t helped by the fact that Malcom Duffy hadn’t turned up – apparently he had better things to do – nor by Steve Thomas’s set, which was more funky nonsense, with more stops, starts and slowdowns than Virgin trains after the Hadfield crash.

The only one to play anything remotely close to Trade style music was Gonzalo, and, for those who know Trade, that sentence about sums it all up muscially. Numbers must have been disappointing for the organisers, no more than 300 we estimated, and though it was billed as a “Xmas Bender” and advertised in the gay press, there were very few gay people there. It went on to 3am but we couldn’t/wouldn’t stay that late – nor could many others. And so to other news. It looks like we’ve found a new home, though things aren’t finalised yet. 2KLUB will be moving to Birmingham after the new year. More details (e.g. where exactly and when) will be announced in due course. Though this may be a disappointment for Manchester, we just couldn’t find a suitable venue there, and Birmingham is much more sensible from my point of view, as I live close by. More on all this in due course. In the meantime, please have a wonderful Xmas and don’t overdo things. I want us all to be together agin in the New Year. Lots of love, Jonathan

THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME ON SUNDAY! With the help of 2Klub and Manhattan Showbar LGF raised a total of £562, which considering that Canal Street was dead that night and that that sum is more than they usually raise from such events is darned good going. Well done eveyone! A bit disturbed by Walshie’s comments about the current state of the ‘underground’dance music scene. Trouble is – Hard House is big business now for the major record labels. The indie labels have been making quite a mint over the last couple of years (Tidy Trax, Tripoli Trax, Nukleuz etc)from the increasing popularity of Hard House. If you want to hear the ‘underground’ stuff you need to look just that little bit harder I’m afraid. In London you can visit FISH (Tinrib night) or even TRADE at Turnmills to hear the underground sound of the genre. Up north 2Klub is the place to hear the exciting new stuff that commercial clubs like Sundissential/Gatecrasher etc don’t play. Cutting Edge=2Klub. Kinky Trade was anything but kinky for those who wondered. Both myself and another victim were looking forward to scantily clad bodies prancing around the dancefloor. All we witnessed were several hundred steroid-enhanced muscle-marys swinging thier water-bottles like mini weights around the club. Music was so-so. Only one of the original Trade DJ’s was on the decks – Malcolm Duffy – and we missed most of his set because we had to queue for 90mins to get in to Turnmills. Well just recovered from a very, very long weekend and am now able to send messages from my brain to the tips of my fingers again. So Friday errrr well how to describe it “OUCH” on mind, body and soul. A hardcore techno night called species. Attended by my good self, Maz, Claire & Jess absolutely wicked so hard even Sean had to leave after an hour. Same time next month girls. After recovering for 7 hours in bed on Saturday afternoon out again to Shauns who delighted me into the early hours of the morning wih a trip back to the mid 90’s on a voyage of Gangster Rap. Now on to more serious matters, TRADE DOHNUTS twice now to my knowledge exhibit A,B (trade dohnuts) has been taken to suspect A’s (Adam Moore) house, twice now have exhibit A,B been left there. the point I am proposing to the jury is that suspect A has built some kind of Dohnut magnet and is storing it somwhere in his house, so that no-one may bring the dohnuts back up north. There is only one solution to this and that is he buy the trade dohnut machine, quit his job and spend all day producing chocolate rings filled with cream. After emerging into the strained London daylight (and we weren’t the only ones to leave Trade early), I went and bought two chocolate covered donuts, (yes Ant, you know the ones – yummy aren’t they), and took them to Ardam’s – one for me and one for him. Imagine my chagrin later when, half way up the M40 on my way home, I realised that I’d left them BOTH at his house. Apparently Herr van Moorden got one hell of a shock when he ate his and found that it was cream filled. Mind you, most people would if they stuck their mouths in a chocolate ring and found it full of cream. That’ll teach him! He’s not said whether he’s saved mine but I expect he’ll have scoffed them both. (Poetic justice, eh Ant?)

What a disaster! I took two mates down to Trade for their first time this weekend, along with our musical maestro, Ardam van Moorden, and heard the biggest load of old bollocks since I last went to Insomniacz. Cortina’s Music is Moving! At Trade??!! TWICE!! I could have honestly believed that they were running a secret episode of Stars in Their Eyes, with random DJs as Alan Thompson and Steve Thomas, except that the people on SiTE are usually very good. Enough of this negativity, I’ve decided to follow the example of our dear friend DJ GBH, and be really, really positive. So… Today, I had an excellent time. I woke up, opened my eyes and got out of bed! Fantastic!!! I read the paper which mentioned my old mates Bill Clinton, Al Gore and George W. Bush. They’d all left messages on my answering machine over the weekend thanking me for my advice. Apparently I’m in line for three Nobel Prizes: Peace, Economics and Physics as Friday afternoon I ended all world conflict, solved world poverty and settled the question of whether or not the universe will continue expanding indefinitely. Then it was off to work where there were more messages from Simon Raine (‘crasher), James Palumbo (MoS), and Darren Hughes (Home) who want me to tell them the secret 2Klub way of running a fab club. Unfortunately for them I don’t have time to tell them as I have to dash off for a meeting with Lisa Lashes who has offered to bear my children. A theme appears to be emerging in our recent guestbook entries. Far be it from me to buck the trend. Last Friday I went down to London, for Fish, just for the night, aiming to get back home on Saturday morning. Somehow, who knows how, I managed to stay until Sunday evening, doing The Edge, where Adam played a very bouncy set, meeting some of his very nice friends for a few hours chillin’ afterwards, and then doing Trade on Sunday morning. Needless to say, (but I’ll say it anyway), many were those who were impressed by my flailing arms, glowsticks attached, at all these events. Only three people had eyes gouged out this time and just four got bopped on the head. Looks like it’s Manchester this w/e, but more glowsticks will need to be ordered as I’ve now run out of the last batch of 150 I had.

Is there no rest for the wicked these days? Apparently not. After successfully managing to evade all club action this weekend (not intentionally). Who do I get a call from, as I’m just about to sit down for Sunday lunch with the folks? Sean, asking me and Maz did we want to go for a quick drink on canal street, so after pondering this descion for a couple of minutes, sure why not. Oh dear what then followed was the messiest Sunday I’ve had the privilege to be involved in, in a long time. Went to Trade (10th birthday) on Saturday/Sunday…..Oh my god what a night! The music played was basically all the hard house tunes from the past 10 years and it was just quality!! They had three rooms open – The lite lounge where the sharp boys and some other (london based djs played). Then the main room where Alan Thompson, Malcolm Duffy, Steve Thomas, Ian M and Gonzalo…all the untidy dubs, Sharp tools and tracks off of Trade Vol 1, 2 & 3…excellent. Then in the room at the back had some local Djs as well as Dj Ziad & Rachel Auburn. It started at 4am till 4pm…what a f**kin night!!!

It was in the music box and the where amzing good! (especially the last one that season). Last July I went back, but a lot changed. However I met a small group at the end of the evening. What can I say, this club has everything, one of the best venues in the north west, one of the best sound systems, one of the best crowds and absolutely flookin’ amazing music. lol – yeah I know what you’re saying Jonathan. I was in Derby at the weekend at a small, undergound night called ‘Mayhem’ (I was driver for Elliot Tordoff !!) and I got talking to this guy who knew of 2Klub. He said something like “Oh congratulations man – you got yourself a new venue didnt you?”. In shock, wondering why the hell I hadnt heard of this news sooner, I replied “What?! Have we? Where?!?”. He said “This guy – erm….Dave… – is gonna help you out – he owns a club in Fallowfield”. Puzzled, surprised and eventually seeing the light, I dont think I stopped laughing for about 20 minutes!! (Although it was actually disappointing as I thought we literally did have somewhere else). Also attended ‘Ouch’ in Birmingham for a few hours, ‘Stimulate’ and ‘Zulus’ (where I am resident) in Sheffield at the weekend too. Going to ‘Base’ in Leeds tonight to see stalwart Rob Tissera tear it up. Good luck Jonathan – we’re all looking forward to a new venue mate. Hope everyones doing well 🙂 GRH
Firstly, Ant, please don’t go down to B&Q just yet mate. Wait ’til we’ve got the venue sorted and do it there – we can probably sell more tickets that way if we can give your debut public performance a bit of advanced publicity. Secondly, I did Polysexual at Code again last weekend and must say that I had a much better time than the previous week. It’s definitely worth checking out. There were lots more people this time, (though opening time has been put back to 4pm from midday), and the atmosphere was great. Fergie played a good set (3hrs.) followed by Lisa Lashes (another 3hrs). As it’s only £7 and you get top name DJs every time it seems like good value to me. Get in touch if you’d like to meet up there sometime. Thirdly, strange how confused people get sometimes. Someone asked me the other day about this new venue he’d heard we’re moving to in Fallowfield. Oh my quite a weekend so much for my quiet one! Tidy on Friday was wicked gutted i couldnt stay for the chill out but duty called glad you guys all had fun though and that Sunny D was a success. Insomniacz was much improved the sound system is much better at corporation and a quality line up OD404, rafferty, Jon Dentist, Farley, Tidy Boyz, lee Haslam and Glazby. As always Zulus was most interesting managed to rediscover Ibiza in Kirks car and generally lose the plot big time. Thanx to all who contributed to how bad I feel today you know I love it keep it coming!! This goes out to anyone who didn’t go to Polysexual @ Code (Birmingham) yesterday. You missed one of the best nights out in Birmingham for a loooong time!!!! The music started off on a funky house tip, Dave Alldersaw (I think I’ve got his name wrong!) some wicked tunes such as Bob Sinclair and Olav Basoski and then he played all the old Sharp tunes, then the Sharp boys came on and did their thing (excellent) then Alan Thomas came on at six……oh…my…GOD!!!!! Bloomin’ marvelous!!!! then the mighty Fergie came on at 20:00 (oh my god the tunes!!!!) then Miss Lisa Lashes……need I say more!!!!. Wicked Club, excellent sound system and the atmosphere was spot on, everyone was friendly and there was not a drop of attitude from anyone. Don’t think that I can manage going again next weekend (I’m f**ked!!!). But the week after (15th October) Malcolm Duffy is playing and if you have never heard him play before go see him!!! Disappointed to not make the 1st part at the Music Box – big mix up with cars etc meant that I couldnt get to Manchester until early on Saturday. Sssssuuuupppp playas! DJGRH has not had a good week – tonsilitus has struck him down and left him bed-ridden for most of Monday, the whole of Tuesday and most of Wednesday too. Although he is able to walk and talk again now, he’s still feeling under the weather and has a belter of a headache. All being well, should be at least 70% fit for Friday night / Saturday morning though – although I certainly will be taking things nice and steady as things have not been good. OK, so the free blag into GC on Saturday night to jump around to Oakie (Kokey) and then the goldrush of Area 51 afterwards didnt help, but oh my god, I’ve been knocked for 6 by this so go e-z on me this weekend guys and gals (Shaun you savage : that means stay away from me with that very bubbly Lucozade!). I have now retired from the ACE Clan as unwanted happenings have taken place at unwanted times in the early hours of the morning, this has only happened with very large portions of Chicken Rogen-Josh before and does not really fit in well with my clubbing expeditions. Oh dear, how did a quiet night at my local club turn into a 3 day bender of the highest order? Hello everybody, just wanting to say a big hello to all my fine friends. You know who you all are (savages) so i cant be bothered naming you all!! Thanks for a wicked weekend, had an absolutely fantastic time, even though i was cake-free. Actually, cant really remember too much of fri night/early hours of sat morning (just a little too much alcohol in my bloodstream!). Wicked day saturday sat on Dave’s front (i mean outside the front of his house), listening to the sounds of the DJ’s Cake Arse and Pornstar and riding the tricycle (bring on the paddling pool, or should i say the alka-seltzer puddle! Big up the best sounds coming from the Love Parade. Pure underground hard house with class mixing. Once I’d found your float I didnt want to go anywhere else. The DJ in the baseball hat who started around 7ish with Scott Project ‘I got a feelin’ was well good. I just wanna say hats off to all. Its good to see Manchester is still more than alive and pumping as I expect it will always be. Nuff said.

Oh my God what a weekend. Thank you Jonathan for putting together what was without doubt the best float it was a bit like challenge Aneka putting together a banging hard house float in 24 hours but you pulled it off mate, well done. Ant, claire, Marrianne and Shaun sorry we didnt make it to SS but we couldnt leave Matt and Kirk after what was an amazing day, we ended up walking 6 1/2 miles into Leeds before deciding to go to Insomniacz which was absoloutley amazing the Tidy Boys were so good its untrue and then off to Zulu for more insanity. Hope u guys had the banging night im sure u did. To pornstar Matt who will never see this anyway u were the boll*cks this weekend mate u had it like an absolute demon I especially enjoyed the HAKA, the drill and the Baseball in Insomniacz we have got to do that again , come on!!! To mother Kirk please learn the diffrence between red traffic lights and green ones before we go out again it was a bit scary but I love you anyway. DJ Gary u were wicked mate I didnt know you played but you were having it big time but did i spot a gurn???? Looking forward to 2KLUB@ZULU that is going to be mental I dread to think how banging thats gonna be coz i might just explode. First visit to 2Klub on 12th May. Who the bloody hell is that fella Eddie Halliwell? He was superb! I shall be looking out for him at future events. When he played TDV mix of ‘Hooked’ I must have looked posessed on the dance floor. Great things to come I think. Next date for me is July. See you there. Along with that smiler Mr Halliwell hopefully!
I’m not normally in to hard house and had to be persuaded to go by a mate – i wasn’t sorry! I know i had a good night because there’s a period of about 2 1/2 hrs that i can’t remember….. I’ll be going again.

2klub is without a doubt the best club in the city at the moment, the people make it, such a funky, fantastic bunch of guys and gals. Eddie Haliwell is a true genius, totally wicked should be playing evry month! The after party was really fun, its a brilliant idea as there is never anywhere to go after 4.00am and i met some very nice people – Des, Jess etc you know who you are. Thanks Jonathon for a wicked night!

Thanks to Dave for pointing the following out on the Cream website. I reproduce it here as it’s gone the rounds many a time before. It worked uncannily well for me.
Take 3 minutes and try this – it will freak you out!! The person who sent me this said her wish came true after 10 minutes. But no cheating! This game has a funny/creepy outcome. Don’t read ahead,just do it in order. It takes about 3 minutes – worth a try.
First get a pen and paper. When you actually choose names, make sure it’s people you actually know ,and go with your first instincts!
Scroll down one line at a time – don’t read ahead or you’ll ruin the fun!
